Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actor known for her performance as the fiery attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name upon her marriage. She was born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. As a child, she displayed an aptitude for acting and received the Top Actress Award at a Maryland High School Contest. In the years following her involvement in theatre and with "The Washington Ballet Company" and "The Washington Ballet Company", she earned an acting diploma from New York University. Contractor was a participant in the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After a full year of auditions, she was offered the lead part. She received rave reviews for her work on the stage in 92 productions. the play was voted the production of the year by Canadian reviewers in 2002. She accepted the invitation to join Stratford's conservatory. This is a course which allows just four men and eight women are able to take the 20-week crash course of classical theater. Contractor's spot was assured in the next season of shows as she was offered the part as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
